Group dinner poll for restaurants

A group dinner poll is the fastest fair way to choose a restaurant: put a few places up, let everyone vote, go where most people want to go. You can do it with a general poll tool, but a poll made for picking a place to eat saves a lot of back and forth.

What a good restaurant poll needs

  • No sign-up for voters. If friends have to download an app or make an account, half of them won't vote.
  • Real places, with details. An address and distance on each option stops the "wait, which one is that?" questions.
  • A way to rule things out. A veto for the place someone really can't do tonight avoids a winner nobody can go to.
  • An end time. The poll should close by itself, so you're not waiting on the one friend who never answers.
  • A clear result. One winner, shown to everyone, with a tie settled fairly.

How to make one with wawe

1. Start a vote. Share your location or type a city. Choose the places yourself, search for a favorite, or let wawe pick 3 nearby. You can also add your own options, like "our usual place" or "cook at Sam's". A vote can have 2 to 8 options.

2. Pick when it ends. In 15 minutes, in an hour or this evening. If you say how many of you there are, it ends as soon as everyone has voted.

3. Share the link. Paste it into the group chat, a text thread or anywhere else. It shows up as a card with the options on it.

4. Friends vote in their browser. They type a first name and tap a pick. Each person also gets one veto. Anyone can change their vote until it ends.

5. See the winner. The result appears on the same link for everyone. Open it in Maps, add it to your calendar, and go.

Good for more than dinner

The same poll works for a team lunch, a birthday meal, brunch after a game or picking a takeout spot for movie night. Anything where a group has to agree on food, quickly, without a long thread.

Settle it with one link

Pick a few places, drop the link in the group chat and watch the winner appear. Free, and nobody needs to sign up.
